FRANKEL IN DEMAND AT TATTERSALLS

FRANKEL finished day one of Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale as the second leading sire (behind Dubawi) with an average of 468,333gns for nine sold.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 9th October 2019.

A few minutes before the Coolmore purchase of Pier House Stud’s FRANKEL colt another son of the stallion (Lot 180) – and out of a champion race mare – added 525,000gns to the day’s turnover when knocked down to Phoenix Thoroughbreds.

That organisation’s purchase was foaled by dual Classic winner Attraction, whose 2015 foal Elarqam, a full-brother to the yearling, had finished third in the Juddmonte International Gr.1 since the catalogue went to print.

FRANKEL’s offspring were popular throughout the session, and included a colt (Lot 91) who made 500,000gns to a bid from agent Alex Elliott. His purchase was bred by Peter Winkworth out of the Verglas mare Tropical Paradise, whose CV included a win in Goodwood’s Oak Tree Stakes Gr.3. Having headed underbidder Lord Grimthorpe of Juddmonte Stud, Elliott said: “He’s been bought for Amo Racing and will go into training with Michael Bell, who loved the horse.  Juddmonte would know what a good horse looks like, so it is pleasing to think they were interested in the same horse, and the Winkworths are good breeders.”

Sebastien Desmontils of Chauvigny Global Equine was another FRANKEL buyer, paying 525,000gns for a colt by the sire (Lot 100).Both Desmontils and the horse had travelled across the Channel, the FRANKEL having been raised and grazed at Andreas Putsch’s Normandy-based Haras de Saint Pair. Desmontils said: “We didn’t set out to buy a horse with French premiums, but this horse is eligible. Our client is a new buyer from Japan who wants to race in France.

"At Arqana we bought him a Siyouni filly who should be a precocious early type, and this colt is more of a Classic horse, so something different.”
