F2104 FRANKEL (92.09 Stallion Spectator Rating points; Juddmonte, ENG, £175,000): F2012 Quality Road and F2013 Uncle Mo are top sires standing at six figure fees. So even though our speed figure analysis only began with the crop of F2012 sires, these two must be pretty fair yardsticks. Quality Road has 12.9% “95+ Runs” and an average speed figure of 73.1;Uncle Mo has 13.6% 95+ runs and a 71.0 average speed figure. Frankel has 34.4% 95+ runs and an average speed figure of 82.0. He’s in a class of his own; at a guess, probably his own sire, Galileo, would be the only sire with similar numbers if we could go back that far.
But his metrics are mostly in the superstar sire category: 9.0% GSW foals in his first three crops; 11.45% A Runners/foals and 3.37% G1G2 winners/foals – you’d like to see that get to 4.00%. But what is absolutely beyond dispute is that as a sire he has what we could say is the highest “cruising speed” ever for a sire – just his average runners are about 10 points higher than the average for any but at most the world top five sires – if even them.
