The Listed Prix Volterra, also for three-year-old fillies, this time over 1600m, followed and it was won by the Andre Fabre-trained Suphala.

The daughter of FRANKEL raced in mid-division as Madeleine Must (Motivator) set a moderate tempo. The order changed little until two furlongs out, at which point Pierre-Charles Boudot began to shake up Suphala. Her response was immediate, but Madeleine Must had an easy lead up front and so was still full of running. She tried valiantly to deny Fabre’s charge, but Suphala had too much for her and ran out the winner by three parts of a length, with Waldblumchen (Sea The Moon) a further half-length back in third.

Suphala, twice a winner last year, was second in the Prix Imprudence Gr.3 on her seasonal reappearance, before running ninth in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches Gr.1.

Bred by Haras d’Etreham and Riviera Equine SARL and bought for €650,000 by Charles Gordon-Watson Bloodstock from the Arqana August Yearling Sale, she is a half-sister to the Criterium du Bequet L. winner and Prix du Calvados Gr.3-placed Sivoliere (Sea The Stars). They are out of the Prix de Lieurey L. winner Sefroua (Kingmambo), whose own dam is the Coronation Stakes Gr.1 winner Sophisticat (Storm Cat), a daughter of the US Champion Three-Year-Old and multiple Gr.1 winner Serena’s Song (Rahy).
