SECOND GROUP WIN FOR KINGMAN'S HEADMAN
KINGMAN colt Headman recorded his second Group win in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano Gr.2 at Deauville yesterday.
His closing surge was enough to see him beat Roman Candle by a head. Trainer Roger Charlton said: "That was a very good performance. We knew there would be no pace in the race and that was really against him. He was never able to use his stride and was too keen, having to be checked back all the time, but he does have a really nice turn of foot and proved again what a good horse he is."
He added: "Even though we had concerns about the rain, we had to go for it as there was nothing else and this was the last group race for just three-year-olds over that trip. The problem with this horse is he needs pace in the race rather than being ground-dependent. He has the potential to be a Group 1 horse, but we'll see what we do. If he runs again this season, it will only be one more and he now has to go up against the older horses probably in the Irish Champion Stakes Gr.1. Next season, he could make it at the highest level."
