MORE GROUP SUCCESS FOR FRANKEL'S ELARQAM
Elarqam stepped up to Group 2 company at York on Saturday with a decisive three and a quarter length victory in the York Stakes.
Trainer Mark Johnston said: "He's just matured
from three to four and is a much harder and fitter horse than he
was as a three-year-old. I said to [jockey] Dane beforehand that I'd never
seen him look as well as he did today and now we've found out
"He is versatile in terms of ground and as he's just won over
the course and distance, the Juddmonte International is the
obvious option. Whether there are other races for him abroad, I
don't know but it's a nice discussion to have."
Another son of FRANKEL, Delaware, became a new stakes winner for his sire in the 8 furlong Prix de Tourgeville L. at Deauville on Sunday. Teddy Grimthorpe commented: "Andre always liked him and it was probably a combination of
blooming later in the year and the ground conditions. The Prix Daphnis here over a mile has been mentioned, as has the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano over 10 furlongs and we will look at both, but now that he's done that it may be that we stick at a mile."
Obligate, another homebred by FRANKEL, placed third in the Prix Rothschild Gr.1 at Deauville behind Laurens and With You (DANSILI).
