Record-breaking sale for Bated Breath

Yesterday saw Bated Breath break his yearling price record for the third time this week when Shadwell purchased a colt for 290,000gns on the final day of Book 2.

The sale saw all four Juddmonte stallions with yearlings achieve a six-figure average.

Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 15th October 2020:

The Mountain View Stud-consigned colt is out of Tremelo Pointe who has already produced two blacktype performers from her first four foals, one of which is full-brother Landshark.

That beat his hours-old record of 280,000gns for Redpender Stud’s Lot 1205, who was purchased by Stroud Coleman on behalf of Hong Kong-based trained. Matt Coleman commented: "This colt is ideal for Hong Kong - he is a big, strong, great-moving horse, plenty of strength and size and a great attitude. He will be pre-trained here and then will go to Hong Kong."

The record had previously tumbled the day before when Lot 828, from Baroda Stud, a half-brother to the Gr.3 winner Rumble Inthejungle was purchased for 260,000gns on Tuesday.

Bated Breath's best-ever yearling sale saw a total of 13 of his yearlings sold for an average of 102,846gns, a remarkable return on the advertised £10,000 fee he commanded when this crop was conceived.
