Second Listed win for Franconia

Juddmonte homebred Frankel filly Franconia registered another Listed win in the Lyric Fillies' Stakes at York yesterday (26th July).

Her first blacktype win came in the Listed Abingdon Fillies' Stakes at Newbury on 13th June with a three-and three-quarter-length winning margin. Heading into the Listed Lyric Stakes as the odds-on favourite, Franconia was ridden patiently by Frankie Dettori before making headway going in to the straight and launching her challenge. After a prolonged duel with eventual runner-up Gold Wand she was ridden out to win by three-quarters of a length.

Dettori commented: "We didn't actually go that fast and it turned into a two or three-furlong sprint with me and Andrea [Atzeni aboard Gold Wand]. "My filly took all of two furlongs to get into top gear, but in the end she was well on top. I suspect a mile-and-a-half will be her game from now on. She's not overly big, she's quite delicate so I think we'll be taking it step by step."
